A Festival First: World Premiere of Contagion
The River City's
biennial celebration of art and culture kicks off on 18
July, with the world premiere of UK artist Gina Czarnecki's
major new work Contagion
at The Block (Creative Industries Precinct).
A significant coup for QUT, Czarnecki has
chosen Brisbane over her native UK to debut the work because
of its growing international reputation as a contemporary arts
hub.
Contagion is a cutting edge installation which
relies on audience interaction to influence the intensely
visual and sonic environment.
Exploring elements of
biotechnology as art, the installation draws parallels between
the biological spread of disease and the dissemination of
information, ideas and beliefs in society.
Contagion is open from 19 July to 3 August
(Tues-Sun), 11am-5pm. Visit www.ciprecinct.qut.com
for more info.
