Cherbourg Time: Young black and deadly art 2003-2007

Cherbourg shines on Kelvin Grove Rd Screen

In 2003 artists Peter Widmer and Geoff Bonney (collectively Ratartat) began a community art project working with the children of Cherbourg State School to encourage a sense of self, pride and community among the town's youth.

Five years on, Ratartat and QUT Precincts present an exhibition opening on 7 August featuring the work produced by the kids throughout the project.

A 45m x 9m billboard (left) fronting Kelvin Grove Road features the exhibition's largest work, a striking compilation of paintings done by the whole school.

The original paintings appear on the terracing logs surrounding the school oval in Cherbourg and represents each of the 50 tribes that make up the Cherbourg community.

Please join us at the opening of Cherbourg Time: Young black and deadly art 2003-2007 on Thursday 7 August, 2pm at The Block. RSVP to ciprecinct@qut.com.
